FARMERS MARKET NOW OPEN! EVERY FRIDAY OUTSIDE THE CO-OP IN INDEPENDENCE 4.30PM - 7.30PM
The Farmers Market takes place 5pm - 7pm in the Summer at the Owens Valley Food Co-Op building at Mairs Market in Independence (Edwards St. /Rte 395 @ Kearsarge),
We now accept both WIC and SNAP.
The Lone Pine market will be closed until further notice but arranging CSA boxes on request.
STEP 1: Visit the California Department of Food and Agriculture's Certified Farmer's Market Program website http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/egov/farmersmarket/ and click on Application for Certified Producer's Certificate. Fill the application out online and click submit.
STEP 2: The State will send the application to Oliver Hardwick; he will print it out, sign it, and mail two copies to the producer, one to sign and keep for display each time a producer sells at the farmers market and one to sign and send back to the County. At some point Oliver will inspect the producer's growing site.
STEP 3: Once you have your certificate, you need to provide a copy to the farmer's market manager Sue Hutson. She will give the producer a copy of the farmer's market policies to sign.
STEP 4: Pay an annual $25 fee to OVGC to help with insurance and other costs .
STEP 5: Pay a $5 table fee each time you sell. This covers the Farmer's Market Manager's wages. OVGC must also send a $1 remittance to the State for each time a vendor sells at a FM
WIC and/or SNAP: Grower Producers who want to accept WIC and/or SNAP at farmers markets will need to take a training course or courses and sign additional vendor agreements.
Attendance at OVGC General Council meetings (6 pm at Mairs Market on the 4th Wednesday of each month) is encouraged. By joining OVGC and coming to meetings you will be up kept up to date and also will have a voice in the decision making process.
Artisans must get approval from the OVGC FM Manager to sell, then follow Steps 4 & 5. Attendance at GC meeting is also encouraged.
